10\29 Marty Lapointe continues his tear, scoring a goal in leading the Wings to a 4-1 win at
the Joe against the Blue Jackets. Also scoring were Shanahan, McCarty, and Maltby. Chris
Osgood earned his 200th career win. Next up: at Washington on Tuesday.

From the Detroit News: (Scotty)Bowman is headed back to Buffalo today for induction into
the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. He is the winningest coach in Sabres history, with 204
victories. He coached them in 1979-80, and from 1981-1986. Observers are free to suggest
Buffalo took its time on the induction.

10\23 Two nights in a row the Wings win in OT. This time 2-1 in Columbus. Scoring in front of
Ozzy's awesome goaltending were Gill and Maltby with the OT winner. Next up: Tampa Bay at the
Joe on Wednesday.
I was in Chicago today and had the priviledge of eating at Cheli's Chili Bar. It was
relatively empty when we were there so I had a chance to talk to Cheli's sister who runs the
show there. What a sweet lady. She sat and talked with us for 15 minutes or so. She said Chris
had surgery on Saturday and was hoping to be back in two or three weeks. She also said that
there would be an article in the next issue of ESPN the Magazine about the bar. If you haven't
been there yet I highly recommend it.

10\22 Detroit won a squeaker over the Sabres 5-4 in OT. Scoring were Brown, Lapointe, Verbeek(2),
and Shanny with the OT winner. Next up: Sunday at Columbus.

10\20 The Wings steal a point from Nashville with a Fedorov goal at 59:57, then blow it in OT 1-2.
Next up: Buffalo at the Joe tomarrow.
Chelios will likely be out as long as Yzerman. Todd Gill was called up to fill the hole.

10\18 The Wings handled the Blues easy enough thanks to 58 minutes of shutout from Manny Legace.
Wings win 2-1. Scoring were Fedorov and Lapointe. Chris Chelios injured his knee in the 3rd but
it is unknown how long he'll be out. Next up: Nashville at the Joe on Thursday.

10\16 This time, the Wings didn't stand a chance and remain without a win at home after a 2-4
drubbing by the Flames. Scoring were Ward and Lapointe. The officiating was as bad as my
spelling. Next up: St.Louis at the Joe tomarrow.
More bad news: Yzerman just had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee and will
be out 6-8 weeks.

10\14 Chicago didn't stand a chance against the fired up Red Wings. Wing's beat 'em 4-0 thanks to
a Manny Legace shutout. Scoring were Brown, Fedorov(sh), Holmstrom, and Shanahan. Next up:
Calgary at the Joe on Sunday night.

10\12 The Wings dropped their home opener to the Oilers 3-4. Scoring were Draper, Ward, and
Lapointe. Next up: at Chicago tonight where Chris Chelios will be honored during home opener
ceremonies.

10\11 One of hockey's greatest fighters, Joe Kocur, has retired. Kocur was drafted by Detroit in
1983 and spent 8 years there before being traded to the Rangers. He teamed with Bob Probert to
create the 'Bruise Brothers.'After a couple years there and a hicup in Vancouver, Kocur returned
to Detroit. Joe was actually playing in the beer leagues when the Wings found him the second time
around. He ends his career with 820 games, 80 goals, 82 assists, and 2519 penalty minutes. Joe's
new job will be Video Cordinator with the Wings. Well miss you buddy.
Yuri Butsyev was sent to Cincinnati to make room for Steve Yzerman's return in Detroit's
75th home opener tonight.

10\7 The Oilers were patient and came from behind to beat the Wings 2-1. Scoring for Detroit was
Verbeek. The Wings continue to have an excellent penalty kill unit. Next up:Edmonton at the Joe
on Wednesday.

10\6 Kirk Maltby netted a short hander to help the Wings past the upstart Flames 4-3. Scoring
were Fedorov, Duchesne, Kozlov, and Maltby(sh). Next up: Tonight at Edmonton.

10\4 Some moves needed to be made to get the roster down to 23 players. As a result, Ken
Wreggett was sent down to Manitoba and Todd Gill and standout Jason Williams were sent down to
Cincinnati. Manny Legace earned the backup goal spot because of two straight kick-ass training
camps and some undefeated fill in work last season when Osgood was hurt. Steve Yzerman is on the
injured reserve list for about a week. After he returns, another forward will be demoted. Rumors
have Doug Brown being outright released, but we'll have to see what happens.

10\2 The Wings end their preseason with a 2-3 loss against the Leafs. Scoring were McCarty and
Verbeek. Next up: the regular season beginning Thursday in Calgary.
The Wings finished 4-3-2 in the preseason with McCarty the leading scorer with 5-4-9.
Management's next task is to refine the roster down to 23 players by Tuesday. It will be
interesting to see who stays up as the backup goal tender.

10\1 The Wings settle for a 2-2 tie in Dallas. Scoring was Holmstrom (2). Next up: at Toronto
tonight.
The Wings gave a four year contract extension to Jimmy Devellano, the Red Wings' senior
vice-president. He's been with the Wings since 1982 and was one of the first people hired when
the Ilitches bought the team.
